South Shields is a beautiful Coastal Town at the mouth of the River Tyne, about four miles downstream from Newcastle upon Tyne. With a busy High Street, a variety of restaurants and breathtaking seascapes, it truly is an oasis within the North-East region. South Shields slopes gently from Cleadon Hills down to the river and has six miles of coastline with extensive beaches including a National Trust protected area, and Marsden Bay with its famous Marsden Rock and historic Grotto.

Connections

Getting around the North East couldn't be easier with local Metro Stations offering frequent services and Bus Connections leading to Newcastle City Centre, North Tyneside, Sunderland and everything in between in addition to road links A194 and A19 leading to the A1(M). A Ferry Terminal also runs between South and North Shields.

Shopping and Leisure

South Shields town centre is the place to be for those looking for retail therapy having a variety of shops including ASDA, NEXT, Argos and Northern Threads to name just a few. Haven Point is a state of the art leisure facility at South Shields seafront, boasting swimming pools with adjustable floors, leisure waters with slides, bubble spa, saunas, gym, dance studios offering a variety of fitness classes and more. The region possesses long stretches of golden sands, backed by sand dunes and promenade and is home to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park which has a number of Arcades, a Bowling Alley and a Fun Fair.

Education

Local schooling is generally regarded as being very good, with a range of Primary and Senior Schools and the area being home to South Tyneside College, one of the two leading maritime training centres in the UK, with facilities including a marine safety training centre and a simulated ship's bridge for the training of deck officers finding the right schools will be a breeze if that is an important consideration in your next move.

Local History

South Shields boasts a rich local history with Arbeia Roman Fort, the most extensively excavated Roman military supply base in the Empire just a five minute walk from South Shields Seafront. Today, Arbeia is a fascinating place to visit and is a great insight into what life was like in Roman Britain. It combines the excavated remains of the original fort with excellent reconstructions of buildings.

The first purpose-built lifeboat was built in the Borough in 1789, and South Shields is home to Britain's second oldest preserved lifeboat, the Tyne, which is located at the Wouldhave Memorial on Ocean Road. The area is awash with many tales of smugglers and legends.

Unlike flooding from rivers, surface water flooding can happen many miles from a river, often in places that people wouldn’t expect because it’s a long way from a river or stream – it happens simply because there is nowhere else for the rainwater to go. Risk ratings are measured as:
High Risk - an area which has a chance of flooding of greater than 1 in 30 (3.3%) in any one year.
Medium Risk - an area which has a chance of flooding of greater than 1 in 100 (1.0%) in any one year.
Low Risk - an area which has a chance of flooding of greater than 1 in 1000 (0.1%) in any one year.
Very Low Risk - an area in which the risk is below 1 in 1000 (0.1%) in any one year

Testimonial 1
I purchased a property through Andrew Craig. Andrea has kept me updated throughout the buying process and been amazing to deal with. Andrea has always been very approachable and pro-active, nothing is too much trouble! She’s even listened to my frustrations with regards to our own estate agent when selling and not being kept up to date! (wish we had chose Andrew Craig as ours were useless!). Thanks so much Andrea for going that extra mile! Your amazing!
Testimonial 2

A massive thank you to Jackie and her team for the support, help & guidance whilst selling our home. They were very professional, knowledgeable and extremely helpful to us from start to finish. A special mention to Darren who got us on the market, & Danica who helped us with the final hurdle - sold. To the rest of the staff who helped with viewings, queries & everything in between, you were all marvellous. Jackie and her team are a credit to Andrew Craig.

Council Tax pays for multiple services in the property's local authority with only part of it going to the council itself. Residences within a Parish or Town Council area have an additional charge to fund the body. Each parish/town council has a different budget and imposes different fees. Not all councils have parishes/town councils and this varies across the country.

In instances where parish/town councils do affect the council tax value and we do not have the exact figure, we present council tax data with the below highlights. Take care to confirm which is being presented by the dashboard as this will need to be made clear to your clients:

avg - When we indicate the Council Tax price is 'avg', it means we have not been able to obtain an exact figure, so this number represents the mean value of Council Tax across the council for that property band. The exact figure will be slightly higher or lower because each parish/town council is priced differently.

min - When we indicate the Council Tax is a 'min', it represents the known amount that the council sets for itself, but excludes the parish/town council cost which we have not been able to obtain. The additional cost will need to be considered as it will be greater than the indicated price.
